Trek Details

The Gokyo Trek is a beautiful trek in the Everest Region, offering a less crowded alternative to the famous Everest Base Camp trek. It takes you through stunning alpine landscapes, past turquoise lakes, and offers incredible views of the Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu mountains. One of the highlights of the trek is the Gokyo Ri viewpoint, where you can see panoramic views of some of the highest peaks in the world.

Trek Plans

  • Day 1 Arrival Day at Kathmandu (1345m)
    • Arrive in Kathmandu, and rest or explore the city.
    • If you have time, visit the Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Durbar Square, or other local attractions.
    • Overnight in Kathmandu.
  • Day 2 Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla & Trek to Phakding
    • Morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m) – around 35 minutes. The flight itself is thrilling with great views of the mountains.
    • From Lukla, trek to Phakding (2,610m) – about 3 hours of walking. The trail is mostly downhill through a beautiful valley, with views of the surrounding hills.
    • Overnight in Phakding.
  • Day 3 Phakding to Namche Bazaar
    • Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m) – about 5-6 hours.
    • The trail takes you through lush forests, cross suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, and uphill toward the bustling market town of Namche Bazaar, the main hub in the Khumbu region.
    • The ascent is steep at times, but the views of the surrounding peaks are worth it.
    • Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
  • Day 4 Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar
    • It’s important to acclimatize before continuing to higher altitudes.
    • Take a day hike to Everest View Hotel for stunning views of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, and other peaks, or hike to Khunde or Khumjung villages.
    • Enjoy exploring Namche Bazaar, a vibrant market town with shops, restaurants, and bakeries.
    • Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
  • Day 5 Namche Bazaar to Dole
    • Trek from Namche Bazaar to Dole (4,040m) – about 5-6 hours.
    • Today’s trail goes through forested areas and past scenic viewpoints, offering incredible views of Thamserku and Kantega. The landscape begins to shift toward more alpine terrain.
    • Overnight in Dole.
  • Day 6 Dole to Machhermo
    • Trek from Dole to Machhermo (4,470m) – around 4-5 hours.
    • As you continue your ascent, you'll notice the air becoming thinner, so it’s important to walk slowly and steadily.
    • Machhermo is a small village and a good spot for acclimatization.
    • Overnight in Machhermo.
  • Day 7 Machhermo to Gokyo
    • Trek from Machhermo to Gokyo (4,790m) – about 5-6 hours.
    • The trail leads you through a beautiful valley and past Gokyo Lake, a stunning turquoise body of water. The Gokyo Lakes are sacred to the locals, and the area is incredibly scenic with towering peaks in the background.
    • Overnight in Gokyo.
  • Day 8 Gokyo Ri Hike & Explore Gokyo Lakes
    • Early morning, hike up to Gokyo Ri (5,357m), a short but steep climb that takes about 2-3 hours. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with one of the best panoramic views of the entire Everest region, including Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Lhotse.
    • Afterward, you can explore the rest of the Gokyo Lakes and the surrounding area.
    • Overnight in Gokyo.
  • Day 9 Gokyo to Dole
    • Trek back from Gokyo to Dole – about 4-5 hours.
    • The descent offers a different perspective of the region and gives your body time to acclimatize before heading lower.
    • Overnight in Dole.
  • Day 10 Dole to Namche Bazaar
    • Trek from Dole to Namche Bazaar – around 6-7 hours.
    • The trail descends through forests and villages, and you’ll have time to enjoy the surroundings and rest once you arrive in Namche.
    • Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
  • Day 11 Namche Bazaar to Lukla
    • Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla – about 6-7 hours.
    • This is the final day of your trek, as you retrace your steps down to Lukla.
    • Once in Lukla, you can relax and celebrate the successful trek.
    • Overnight in Lukla.
  • Day 12 Fly back to Kathmandu
    • Fly from Lukla back to Kathmandu.
    • Spend your last day in Kathmandu to shop, visit temples, or reflect on your trek.
    • Overnight in Kathmandu.
  • Day 13 Departure Day
    • Departure from Kathmandu or extend your stay if desired.
