expedition Details
The Ama Dablam Trek is a stunning trek in the Everest region, offering breathtaking views of the iconic Ama Dablam (6,812m), considered one of the most beautiful mountains in the world. The trek itself doesn't involve technical climbing, so it’s suitable for trekkers with a moderate level of fitness and experience. The trek usually takes around 12-14 days, depending on your itinerary.
The most popular route by far is the Southwest Ridge (right skyline in the photo).Prior to a 2006 avalanche, climbers typically set up three camps along the ridge with Camp III just below and to the right of the hanging glacier, the Dablam. Any ice that calves off the glacier typically goes left, away from the camp. However, after the avalanche, climbers now prefer to set just two camps to minimize risk. Camp I is at an altitude of over 5,800 metres (19,029 ft), and Camp II is at an altitude of over 6,000 metres (19,685 ft). A climbing permit and a liaison officer are required when attempting Ama Dablam. As with Mount Everest, the best climbing months are April and May (before the monsoon) and September and October.
Things to Keep in Mind:
- Acclimatization: The high-altitude sections of the trek can lead to altitude sickness, so take your acclimatization days seriously and follow your guide’s advice.
- Weather: Weather in the Everest region can be unpredictable, so be prepared for cold and potentially wet conditions.
- Physical Fitness: The trek involves significant elevation gain, so be prepared for long days of walking on rough terrain.
- Permits: You'll need a TIMS (Trekkers' Information Management System) card and a Sagarmatha National Park entry permit. If you're going all the way to Ama Dablam Base Camp, you might need additional permits.
