Annapurna Base Camp Trek

10 days

Trek Details

The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is one of Nepal’s most popular and accessible trekking routes, offering a perfect blend of stunning mountain views, cultural experiences, and diverse landscapes. The trek takes you into the heart of the Annapurna Massif, offering close-up views of towering peaks like Annapurna I (8,091m), Machapuchare (Fishtail Mountain), Hiunchuli, and Ganga Purna. It’s a moderately challenging trek, suitable for trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness and no prior technical climbing experience.

Key Highlights of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek:

  • Panoramic Mountain Views: The trek offers magnificent views of Annapurna I, Machapuchare, Dhaulagiri, Hiunchuli, and many other peaks of the Annapurna Massif.
  • Ghorepani and Poon Hill: Early morning sunrise from Poon Hill is one of the most iconic moments of the trek.
  • Diverse Landscapes: From subtropical forests and terraced rice fields to alpine meadows and snow-covered landscapes, the trek showcases the incredible variety of Nepal’s terrain.
  • Cultural Experience: The trek passes through villages inhabited by the Gurung and Magar ethnic communities, offering insights into their culture, traditions, and hospitality.

Difficulty:

  • The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is considered moderate in difficulty. While it doesn’t involve technical climbing, the trek reaches an altitude of 4,130 meters at the base camp, which means proper acclimatization is essential.
  • The trek involves steady uphill and downhill walking, so trekkers need to be in good physical condition, but it’s accessible for most people with basic trekking experience.

Best Time to Trek:

  • Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May) are the best times to trek to ABC, offering stable weather, clear skies, and great views.
  • Winter (December to February) can be cold with snow at higher elevations, and Monsoon (June to August) may bring rain, making trails slippery.

Permits:

  • You will need the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card to trek in this region. These permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Wonderful ABC trek with guide Santosh

ABC trek is a trip I have longed for years. My husband and I signed up for this trip after seeing recommendation from backpacker's inn website. It was a wonderful trip with the Guide Santosh Simkhada. He was very reliable, caring, helpful and responsive along the way. We could enjoy the trek to the fullest without worrying about anything. We experienced different weather condition throughout the 8-day-trek and were lucky enough to see the unforgettable landscape of Annapurna. I highly recommend this company to all of you who are interested in this adventure.
