Key places to visit in Kathmandu:

  1. Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) – A UNESCO World Heritage Site offering panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley and surrounded by a serene Buddhist atmosphere.
  2. Pashupatinath Temple – One of the holiest Hindu temples, located on the banks of the Bagmati River, famous for its cremation ghats.
  3. Boudhanath Stupa – One of the largest stupas in the world, revered by Buddhists and known for its mesmerizing prayer wheels and flags.
  4. Durbar Square – The heart of Kathmandu, filled with temples, shrines, and the old royal palace.
  5. Thamel – A popular tourist district known for its shops, restaurants, and vibrant atmosphere.

Bhutan

Bhutan is a small kingdom known for its untouched natural beauty, rich Buddhist culture, and unique approach to happiness and wellbeing (Gross National Happiness).

Key places to visit in Bhutan:

  1. Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery) – One of the most famous and sacred sites in Bhutan, perched on a cliffside and offering stunning views of the Paro Valley.
  2. Thimphu – The capital city, which combines modernity and tradition. You can visit the Tashichho Dzong, the National Memorial Chorten, and the Buddha Dordenma statue, which is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world.
  3. Punakha – Known for its stunning Dzong, Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo rivers. The valley is also famous for its beautiful scenery, including rice terraces and waterfalls.
  4. Phobjikha Valley – A glacial valley and one of the most beautiful spots in Bhutan, famous for its black-necked cranes and serene landscapes.
  5. Bumthang Valley – Known for its monasteries, temples, and scenic beauty.

Additional Notes:

  • Flight Tips: Flights from Kathmandu to Bhutan (Paro) are usually operated by Druk Air or Bhutan Airlines. It's best to book flights in advance, as these routes can get booked quickly.
  • Visa: Bhutan requires a visa for all visitors, but this is arranged through the tour operator. Ensure you have it before departure.
  • Altitude: Some locations in Bhutan are at high altitudes (such as Paro Taktsang). Stay hydrated and take it slow on hikes to prevent altitude sickness.
  • Customizing the Tour: You can add extra days for trekking in Bhutan or more cultural experiences, depending on your interests.

Tour Plans

  • Day 1 Arrival Day at Kathmandu (1345m)
    • Arrival in Kathmandu: Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu.
    • Transfer to Hotel: Check-in at your hotel.

    Evening Exploration: Relax and take a leisurely evening walk in Thamel, Kathmandu's vibrant tourist district. You can shop for souvenirs or enjoy a delicious Nepali dinner at a local restauran

  • Day 2 Kathmandu Sightseeing
    • Morning:
      • Visit Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple): This iconic stupa sits atop a hill offering panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley.
      • Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square: Explore the historical heart of Kathmandu, featuring ancient temples, palaces, and statues. Visit Kumari Ghar (the home of the Living Goddess).
    • Afternoon:
      • Visit Pashupatinath Temple: This sacred Hindu temple located by the Bagmati River is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is known for its cremation ghats.
      • Visit Boudhanath Stupa: One of the largest stupas in the world, a spiritual center for Tibetan Buddhists.
    • Evening:
      • Free time for dinner and shopping in Thamel.
  • Day 3 Day Trip to Nagarkot/Dhulikhel or Patan

    Morning: After breakfast, embark on a half-day trip to Nagarkot or Dhulikhel (around 1.5–2 hours from Kathmandu) for breathtaking views of the Himalayas (Mt. Everest and surrounding peaks). These hill stations are famous for their scenic beauty and clear mountain views.

      • Alternatively, you can visit Patan Durbar Square for more culture and history.

    Afternoon: Return to Kathmandu by lunchtime. Relax in your hotel or explore more of Kathmandu.

  • Day 4 Kathmandu to Paro (Bhutan)

    Morning: Early morning transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight to Paro, Bhutan (1-hour flight).

    Arrival in Paro: After arrival in Paro, you will be transferred to your hotel.

    Afternoon:

      • Visit Paro Dzong (Rinpung Dzong): A beautiful fortress-monastery that also houses the administrative offices and is an important religious site.
      • Visit National Museum of Bhutan: Located in a former watchtower, this museum showcases Bhutan's culture, art, and history.

    Evening: Leisure time in Paro or take a short walk around Paro Town.

  • Day 5 Paro Taktsang (Tiger's Nest Monastery) Hike

    Morning: Early morning start for a hike to Tiger's Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang).

      • This monastery is perched on a cliff at about 3,120 meters and offers stunning views of the surrounding valley. The hike takes about 4–5 hours round trip. (Take your time and enjoy the natural beauty.)

    Afternoon: After the hike, return to the hotel for some rest.

    Evening: Free time for relaxation or exploring more of Paro.

  • Day 6 Paro to Thimphu
    • Morning: Drive to Thimphu, Bhutan's capital (about 1.5–2 hours).
      • On the way, stop at Simtokha Dzong, one of the oldest dzongs in Bhutan, and admire its historical significance.
    • Afternoon:
      • Visit Buddha Dordenma Statue: The massive golden Buddha statue overlooking Thimphu offers panoramic views of the city.
      • Visit Tashichho Dzong: The majestic fortress-monastery that serves as the seat of the government and the office of the king.
    • Evening: Stroll around Thimphu's Main Street, where you can shop for Bhutanese handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs.
  • Day 7 Day Trip to Punakha

    Morning: After breakfast, drive to Punakha (2.5-3 hours), the former capital of Bhutan.

      • On the way, stop at Dochu La Pass for a scenic view of the Himalayas (if the weather permits). There are 108 chortens (stupas) built in honor of Bhutanese soldiers.

    Afternoon:

      • Visit Punakha Dzong: This majestic dzong is located at the confluence of the Pho and Mo rivers, and it’s one of Bhutan’s most impressive architectural landmarks.
      • Explore Chimi Lhakhang (Temple of Fertility): A short walk from the dzong, this temple is a popular pilgrimage site.

    Evening: Return to Thimphu for the night.

  • Day 8 Thimphu to Paro

    Morning: Return to Paro. Visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan's oldest temples dating back to the 7th century.

    Evening: Leisure time or optional cultural show/dinner at a local restaurant.

  • Day 9 Departure from Paro
    • Morning: After breakfast, transfer to Paro Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu or your next destination.
  • Day 10 Departure Day
